REPORTS TO: Managing Director  

TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: 17 people  

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY: Assume responsibility and authority for developing and implementing sales and marketing strategies and actions to grow the current market and develop new markets, both locally and internationally, to achieve sustainable earnings growth  

GROUP BACKGROUND: Steel Product Manufacturing Company

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of fifteen years post-qualifying experience at least five of which must have been as Head of a Sales and Marketing Division or Second-in-charge in the steel products industry
  • Must have managed a sales and marketing division of at least ten people and have been responsible for an annual sales turnover in excess of R500 million
  • Should be experienced in contract management and commercial risk assessment
  • Should ideally have had sales experience in sub-Saharan Africa
  • A good network of contacts in the African petrochemical industry would be advantageous

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Implement mechanisms to obtain and analyse information on opportunities, competitor activities and customer needs
  • Translate data into the sales and marketing strategy, sales and marketing plan, and budget requirements in line with overall business strategy and plan
  • Implement and monitor the success of strategic actions to achieve sustainable earnings growth and advise the Executive Committee/Board on alternative courses of action
  • Develop regular forecasts to facilitate the ordering of steel, effective utilization of production capacity, and financial reporting requirements
  • Co-ordinate the development and implementation of the pricing policy
  • Advise the Executive Committee on new product development opportunities for sustainable earnings growth
  • Develop advertising/marketing initiatives and implement approved plans
  • Investigate, qualify and develop new markets, both internationally and locally
  • Identify and predict business opportunities which will lead to sustainable earnings growth
  • Investigate, qualify and develop new distribution channel opportunities for the business
  • Investigate, qualify and understand the competitive landscape in all desired markets
  • Develop and implement departmental manpower structures, and lead and direct departmental teams towards goal achievement
  • Develop, implement and communicate performance targets/ measures/ standards/outcomes to staff
